Ognyanovo is a Bulgarian village located in southwestern Bulgaria, very close to the border with Greece. 12 km southwest is Gotse Delchev, which is the nearest major town in the region. The village is about 40 km away from the resort town of Bansko and about 200 km from the capital Sofia. As many as four mountains rise between Ognyanovo - Pirin, Rhodopes, Slavyanka and Strgach. The village is part of the municipality of Garmen, covering parts of the valley of the river Mesta and the western slopes of the Dabrashki part of the Rhodopes. Today Ognyanovo is a famous balneological center with an excellent base.
The village of Ognyanovo is 540 meters above sea level and has a favorable climate, and by adding the mineral spring on its territory, the village becomes an excellent place for spa and rural tourism. The mineral spring in Ognyanovo is known by the name Miroto, which has been exploited since ancient times. The healing properties of its water have benefited people in the distant Roman era.
In combination with the favorable climate Ognyanovo also offers beautiful picturesque natural views. Located in a hilly area rich in vegetation, the village is surrounded by Pirin and the Rhodopes, which are one of the most attractive mountains for hiking in Bulgaria. The clean mountain air in combination with the mild climatic conditions, typical for the southwestern part of the country, make Ognyanovo an excellent place for rest and relaxation during the weekend.
The specific micro climate of the region is associated with the flowering of natural acacia plantations. The local air currents along the valley of the Kanina River help to spread the incredible acacia aroma in the air.
Ognyanovo mineral baths consist of 24 thermo-mineral springs with a total flow rate of 102 l / sec and cf. water temperature 39 -40 degrees Celsius. The most famous and largest spring here - Miroto is part of the so-called. Krayrechno spring, which has 2 localizations. One covers the mineral waters in the area of the so-called Gradski Bani, located 1.5 km north of Ognyanovo, and the other is around the Ognyanovo prophylaxis.
It is this part that is known as Miroto. It consists of 17 springs and has two outdoor pools. They are also the hottest in the region with temperatures of 42, 5 and 42 degrees Celsius. It is here that an old Roman bath was discovered, which is now declared a cultural monument.
Kraiselsko is the other mineral junction, which is located 600 m north of Ognyanovo in the area of the so-called Rural Baths. Here nature has formed 7 springs with a total flow rate of 17 l / sec, whose temperature reaches about 16-40 degrees Celsius. The waters are clear, colorless, with a faint odor of hydrogen sulfide. Absolutely all mineral springs on the territory of the village are without sanitary - chemical pollution and are bacteriologically clean.
Their physicochemical composition characterized them as hyperthermal and weakly mineralized. According to the local mineral waters, more than 100 types of diseases are treated here, including diseases of the musculoskeletal system, endocrine, respiratory and digestive systems, metabolism, nervous, gynecological and cardiovascular diseases. Every month about 2,000 people come here for balneological procedures, including foreigners from all over Europe.
The village of Ognyanovo itself has a town hall, post office, cinema, pharmacy, health service, nursery and kindergarten. Every year on the patron saint's day of the Church of the Assumption on August 15, a traditional fair is held in Ognyanovo, which lasts two days with concerts and fights. The other thing that Ognyanovo and the region are famous for is the great wealth of colorful rugs, woven from old looms.
